According to Alfred Lucas in his book, entitled Kent Next Four Exits, Madden’s Grove school was the first school in the township, and therefore Platte # 1.  Later schools were numbered consecutively as they were built. The 1894 map of the Township  shows 10 different school districts in the township, numbered in a somewhat haphazard way. About 1900 the numbering system was changed to the same standard that was used throughout the state, nine districts per Township.

Prairie Star School - Platte #9 - 2026 photo

Platte # 9, Prairie Star school is located in the north east corner of section 31.  The original school was 1/2 mile east of this site. The original school was moved by mule teams to a location just south of the present school.  The old school burned sometime before 1923 and a new school with a basement was built and is still at that location today. Irene (Mrs. Raymond Francis) put a new roof on the school a few years ago and the Tripp family has given the school house new windows and siding.
