NEW HOPE
According to our county history books, New Hope was a Post Office established in section 21 or 22 of New Hope Township. Henry Jeter was appointed Postmaster in the fall of 1855. The Mail was delivered weekly on a mail route, lying between St. Joseph, Missouri and Winterset, Iowa. Records in the National Archives didn’t go back far enough to record the original location, but did show that in 1865 the New Hope post office was relocated to the northwest quarter of section 19, with Henry Skinner being the postmaster. In 1879 New Hope P. O. was again relocated to the south east quarter of section 7, with Thomas W. Williams being the postmaster.
The post office was discontinued about 1880.
This map shows New Hope on the east side of the railroad tracks, contrary to any written record found.
