VALLEY EVANGELICAL CHAPEL
The church was often called South Valley because there was another Valley Chapel in Highland Township.
In 1891 the South Valley United Evangelical Church was erected in the Southeast corner of section 11, Grant Township for $1500. The land was donated by the Oakes family. The church was struck by lightning and burned on July12, 1915. A new church, with basement, was built for $3000 and dedicated January 16, 1916. Sometime in the 1950s the Evangelical Church was merged with the United Brethern Church and services ceased. The South Valley Ladies Quilters continued to meet at the church building, their last meeting at the church being November 4, 1959, but the group continued quilting for many years at other locations. The building was torn down about 1960 by Carl Eklund.
