AFTON

Located in Section 16 of Union Township, Afton was established October 1, 1854 by Edward A. Temple and made the  county seat in February 1855. The first courthouse and first school house were built in 1857. The Afton Eagle, published by Morris & Ryan in 1859, was the first newspaper published in Afton. Afton remained the county seat until 1890 when it was moved to Creston.
