The Chicago, St. Paul and Minneapolis Railroad Company (later named Chicago – Great Western) started building through Sand Creek Township in the summer of 1887. The Arispe post office was established December 28, 1887. Before this mail was brought from Afton. The first store was built in the spring of 1888 and a new depot in October of that year. The plat for the town was recorded in December 31, 1888. Many homes and businesses were established at this time. The Methodist Church was built in 1898. The town’s first school was built in 1905, a two-story four room building of wood construction. A new brick high school was built in 1921.
In 1930 state highway 169 was paved through town, and many of the towns streets were graveled. The loss of the railroad and the town’s school have led to some decline, but a few businesses still operate today.
