CROMWELL

Cromwell was founded in 1868. It was initially planned to be the railroad division point on the Burlington and Missouri River Railroad where a roundhouse and machine shops would be built.   When the railroad changed their plans and moved the division point to the crest of the railroad line 4 miles further east,   Cromwell was destined to become one of the smaller towns in the county.  Some of the initial buildings built in Cromwell were moved by railroad car to Creston. Even with this setback Cromwell would  grow into a thriving community with two churches, depot, post office, a bank and several stores.
