EDINBERGH

Edinburgh was a town laid out in 1875, in the NW 1/4 of section 35, Dodge  Township,  on the Afton to Winterset Road. It was planned anticipating the coming of a railroad.  The developers were betting that a new railroad would be built between Winterset and Afton.   A few houses may have been built but soon  were abandoned when the railroad never materialized.  It wasn’t until 1887 that the railroad came south from Winterset, but it didn’t follow the Winterset to Afton road, but rather came through Mount Pisgah.
