OLIO
Olio was a Post Office from 1856 until 1864. It was located in Pleasant Township. Looking at several maps it appears to be on the road between Hopeville and Afton. No exact location was ever recorded, but by scaling the map below, the town name appears to be near the corners of sections 10, 11, 14 and 15. It was recently discovered that the location is shown as a historical location on the United States Geological Survey map, where it is clearly shown near the corners of sections, 10, 11, 14, & 15. The United States Geological Survey Map is a modern day map and I do not know where their information was compiled from, making me somewhat skeptical.
When coordinating with the present landowner, Dave Stonehocker, to erect a sign marking the location, he pointed out that there is a limestone foundation on the same area that is marked on the USGS map. This physical evidence makes it seem quite likely that this was the location of Olio post office. Although 1864 has been given as the closing date of the post office, Olio still appears on maps as late as 1899.
