PLATTE CENTER CHURCH

The origin of Platte Center Church began in the town of Union City.  The Union City Church was organized in October 1871 and held worship in the school house for two years.  With the decline of the town it was decided to build their new church in the southwest corner of section 14  of Platte Township.   Platte Center was built in 1874 and held its first services in April 1875.   In 1917 a new entryway and basement were added to the church.  A Delco powerplant was installed in 1919.   For many years the church held a Fall Festival that was a community rather than a church activity.   The festival was like a community fair.   There was judging of garden and farm produce and food and sewing items.  There was a baby contest and many games and relays for the children and always a talent contest on Saturday evening.  The Church held its last service January 26, 2025.
