PLEASANT VALLEY

In 1884 Pleasant Valley Christian Church was built in section 2 of Pleasant Township from lumber sawed and beams hewn from the immediate area by the volunteer labor of the people of the church. The church was heated by two wood stoves one on each side of the sanctuary with the stove pipes coming together in the center and connecting with the chimney.   Some of the family names associated with the early church were Olinger, Cooper, Jackson, Armitage, Day,  Abbott, Walters, Gripp, Water, Wyrick and Tash. In 1946 the tradition of a God’s portion sale was begun.  Proceeds were used to operate the church and keep the building and good repair.  In 1953 the building was moved back a few feet further from the road and a full basement built underneath it with a furnace to heat the church.  In 1979 a well was dug and water piped into the church.   For the first time water did not have to be carried to the church from peoples homes.
