The Valley Chapel Church was built in 1900, largely with funds donated by Maria Bilbo and her son, George. The church was located in the southwest corner of section 2 of Highland Township. The church started with 30 to 50 members, but on special occasions as many as 150 persons attended. Basket dinners were held on the Sunday that the minister would come to preach. They had an active youth group and boosted a choir as good as any in Creston or Afton. In 1944 a wind storm blew a tree into the church, and it was never again used for church services.
